Take Action

In every episode of The Victory and the Struggle, listeners are given a call to action.  It’s intended to be a challenge that will help navigate struggles, move toward victories, or (most likely) do a little bit of both.  While the hosts challenge themselves to tackle every call to action before the next episode, you can pick and choose which you’d like to take on yourself.

  1. Mindset: Identify areas where you have a fixed mindset and begin the work of changing your perception of that skill from static to malleable
  2. Ross McCurdy: In moments of distress or confusion, take a few deep breaths before responding in any way.
  3. Kid’s Fitness: Create ways to be active with the children in your life
  4. Confidence: Identify unhelpful thoughts and create helpful thoughts – be an optimistic coach rather than a critic.
  5. What is Fitness: Take a personal inventory of your fitness habits – identify limits and biases and take on something new.
  6. Phedra Elliot: Commit to a plan and do it even when it’s not fun.
  7. You Are Awesome: Look for the awesomeness around you, and make a point of sharing it
  8. Reverse Golden Rule: Treat yourself the way you like to treat others
  9. Effective Feedback: Practice giving, receiving, and seeking out effective feedback (including giving feedback to the podcast)
  10. Fitness Over Fifty: Share your stories, pictures, and videos that dispell the myth that fitness nose-dives after 50.
  11. Build the Body You Want: Try resistance training if you haven’t already.  Clarify your goals and pursue appropriate education, training, and support for those specific goals.
  12. Zach Forrest: Behave in ways that inspire people.
  13. Alanna Imbach: Do something audacious.
  14. Derek Daley: Go outside and have an adventure…regardless of perceived limitations.
  15. Avoiding Self-Sabotage: Recognize compliments.  Pause and take them in, then express gratitude for the positive feedback.
  16. Gil Bahnsen: Dust off an old project and make it happen.
  17. Nick Pappas: Do less stuff and make sure you’re doing it better (Do Less Better)
  18. Overcoming Complacency: What areas in your life are you tolerating, but would like to change.  Identify those areas and take a step towards it.
  19. Nick and Hans Schippers: Take a personal inventory of consumable plastic use.  “Clean beaches start at home.”
  20. Alyssa Royse: Stop commenting on appearance in any way with anyone.  Bonus call to action – practice self-acceptance.
  21. Matt Swift: Recognize that your time is valuable – be prepared to say “no” when people ask for a commitment then give them time to convince you.
  22. Goal Setting: Practice the tools of effective goal setting and ask for help with accountability.
  23. Growth Culture: Openly share all the resources that you’ve found inspiring, thought-provoking, life-changing, or otherwise having a positive impact on your personal growth.
  24. Todd Widman: When you’re wondering what do do next, just do the next good thing.
  25. Laura Finster: Do something that scares you, and give yourself credit for the challenges you’re already facing.
  26. Ian Landstine: Explore peace in every moment of your day.
  27. Lee Stadshaug: Give yourself grace.  Allow yourself moments to acknowledge your struggles and move forward to the best of your ability
